The View Park

The view of the 1111-hectare (2745 acres) of dykelands within the World Heritage Site is framed by the dramatic Cape Blomidon, from which tradition holds, the legendary Mi’kmaw figure Kluscap (Glooscap) kept a watchful eye over his people.

Located at the former Acadian village of Grand-Pré. The site consists of a memorial park that commemorates the deportation of the Acadians and also includes commemorative buildings, archaeological remains, landscape features and a collection of objects.

Horton Landing commemorates the national significance of the arrival of New England Planters to Nova Scotia in 1760. This site symbolizes the spirit of cooperation between Acadian diaspora and the current community members.

Grand Pré is located in a vibrant natural environment which includes Evangeline Beach, part of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network, witnessing the massive summer migrations of millions of semipalmated sandpipers in the Bay of Fundy.
The village of Grand Pré and its adjacent communities are rich in cultural treasures. The Rural Historic District of Grand Pré, (the first of national significance in Canada) the 1747 Battle of Grand Pré, the birthplace of Sir Robert Laird Borden (Canada’s Prime Minister from 1911 to 1920), the Covenanter Church, and the many historic buildings tell the story of the inhabitants of Grand Pré in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Sir Robert Borden, the 8th Prime Minister of Canada 1911-1920, was born at Grand Pre,on 26 June 1854; he died at Ottawa on 10 June 1937. He was a leading figure in the achievement of Dominion Status, and in the transition from the British Empire to the British Commonwealth of Nations.
Coming from Halifax, Nova Scotia (about 45 minutes): Grand Pré is located in the Annapolis Valley, about a 45-minute drive from Halifax going west. From highway 101, take Exit 10 towards Wolfville and follow Route 1 west for one kilometre then turn right on Grand Pré Road (just past the gas station). Visitor services are available during tourist season at Grand-Pré National Historic Site of Canada located on Grand Pré Road on the left side before arriving on the marshlands. Coming from Moncton, New Brunswick (about 3 hours): From Moncton, head towards Route 2 E/Trans Canada Highway toward Sackville/Nova Scotia. Cross the provincial border which becomes NS Highway 104. Please note: this is a partial toll road. After about 45 minutes, take exit 15 to merge onto NS Highway 102 South toward Halifax/Truro. Take exit 4B to NS highway 101 towards Lower Sackville/Windsor. Take exit 10 to Grand Pré/Wolfville. Follow Route 1 west for one kilometre then turn right on Grand Pré Road (just past the gas station). Visitor services are available during tourist season at Grand-Pré National Historic Site of Canada located on Grand Pré Road on the left side before arriving on the marshlands. |

Take the Princess of Acadia ferry from Saint John, New Brunswick to Digby, Nova Scotia. The ferry runs daily and takes just three hours to cross the Bay of Fundy. From the Digby Ferry Terminal take Highway 101E (The Evangeline Trail) to Exit 10. Turn left. Follow Route 1 west for one kilometre then turn right on Grand Pré Road (just past the gas station). Visitor services are available during tourist season at Grand-Pré National Historic Site of Canada located on Grand Pré Road on the left side before arriving on the marshlands.
